ANIMASYROS is an international animation festival and market held annually on the island of Syros, Greece, with activities centred in Hermoupolis and at venues such as the Apollon Theatre, cultural centres and open-air locations across the island. Active since 2008, it is recognised as the largest animation event in Greece and a reference point for the wider Mediterranean region. The festival is structured around three main pillars: an artistic programme with multiple competition sections and curated tributes, an extensive media‑literacy and educational strand for audiences of all ages and abilities, and the ANIMASYROS Agora, a professional forum for project development, pitching, masterclasses and networking. Recent editions introduce the overarching theme “Animated Cosmos”, dedicated to space, which informs screenings, workshops and industry discussions. The next edition is scheduled for 21–27 September 2026 on Syros, continuing the festival’s focus on international exchange and the development of animation as an art form and creative industry.
