The 23rd annual Tribeca Festival in the United States has announced its 2024 competition winners, spanning categories from Feature Film to Audio Storytelling. Top awards include Griffin in Summer for Best U.S. Narrative Feature, Bikechess for Best International Narrative Feature, and Hacking Hate for Best Documentary Feature. The 23rd annual Tribeca Festival, held in New York City, has announced the winners of its 2024 competition. This year’s festival, presented by OKX, showcased a diverse array of talent across multiple categories, including Feature Film, Short Film, Audio Storytelling, Immersive, Games, Human/Nature, AT&T Untold Stories, and Tribeca X.

Top Awards

The Founders Award for Best U.S. Narrative Feature went to Griffin in Summer, directed by Nicholas Colia. The jury praised its “precocious and unexpected storytelling” and “well-crafted performance.” Jasmine Bearkiller Shangreaux won Best Performance in a U.S. Narrative Feature for her role in Jazzy. Bikechess, directed by Assel Aushakimova from Kazakhstan, received the Best International Narrative Feature award. The jury highlighted its “lightness of style” and “generous cinematography.”

Notable Documentary Awards

Hacking Hate, directed by Simon Klose, won Best Documentary Feature for its “brave and fearless” investigation into the misuse of the internet to foster hate. A Special Jury Mention was given to Made in Ethiopia, directed by Xinyan Yu and Max Duncan, for its exploration of globalization’s impact on personal and collective experiences.

Special Recognition

The Nora Ephron Award went to Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge for Don't You Let Me Go from Uruguay, praised for its life-affirming celebration of love and female friendships. The Best New Narrative Director Award was presented to Nnamdi Asomugha for The Knife, with the jury commending his ability to tackle universal themes within a dramatic thriller format.

Viewpoints and Short Films

In the Viewpoints Competition, Come Closer, directed by Tom Nesher from Israel, won the top award. Elizabeth Sankey's Witches received a Special Jury Mention for its exploration of women’s mental health. In the Shorts Competition, Ripe! by Tusk won Best Narrative Short, while Makayla’s Voice: A Letter to the World by Julio Palacio was awarded Best Documentary Short.
