Angelina Jolie to Receive TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media at 2024 Toronto International Film Festival
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will honor Angelina Jolie with the prestigious TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media at its 2024 edition. The award will be presented on September 8 during the Tribute Awards Gala at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Canada. Jolie, a multi-hyphenate Academy Award–winning actor, Tony Award–winning producer, director, and humanitarian, joins an esteemed list of previous honorees, including Pedro Almodóvar, Mira Nair, and Alanis Obomsawin.
Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF, expressed the festival's excitement in recognizing Jolie’s work, stating, "Angelina Jolie is a multifaceted talent who has entertained audiences for decades while consistently using her platform to champion important causes. This award recognizes her exceptional achievements in filmmaking and her unwavering commitment to positive change, solidifying her status as a veritable humanitarian and global force to be reckoned with."
Jolie's upcoming film, "Without Blood," will have its world premiere on September 8 at TIFF. The film, which she wrote, directed, and produced, stars Salma Hayek Pinault and Demián Bichir. Based on the acclaimed novel by Alessandro Baricco, the film explores themes of war, trauma, and healing.
Jolie has a long history of using her cinematic work to highlight social justice issues. Notable films in her directorial portfolio include Unbroken (2014), In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011), and First They Killed My Father (2017), which also premiered at TIFF.
In addition to her contributions to film, Jolie has over two decades of humanitarian work, particularly focused on refugees and human rights. She has funded numerous global initiatives in education and health and is the President of the Maddox Foundation, which supports conservation and development projects in Cambodia.
The TIFF Tribute Awards Gala, now in its sixth year, is the festival’s largest fundraising event, with proceeds supporting TIFF's Every Story Fund, a program dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in film. Past honorees of the Tribute Awards, including Michelle Yeoh, Brendan Fraser, and Jessica Chastain, have gone on to win major accolades during awards season.
Jolie will be honored alongside fellow luminaries Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, David Cronenberg, and others. Sandra Oh will serve as the inaugural Honorary Chair of the event. The 2024 Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 5 to 15.
