The Czech Horizon Grant, supported by the PPF Foundation, is now accepting submissions for its third edition, aiming to foster the growth of professional short animated films in the Czech Republic. From October 17, 2024, filmmakers can submit animation projects with a planned running time of up to 60 minutes. The grant, valued at CZK 1,000,000, seeks to help Czech creators continue producing animated works beyond their university studies by providing crucial financial support for either the preproduction or production phases.

Eligible projects must not be student films, and submissions will remain open until December 31, 2024. Once the deadline passes, selected projects will advance to a pitching session to be held at the Anifilm International Festival of Animated Films (Anifilm IFAF) on May 7, 2025, in Liberec, where creators will present their projects before a professional jury. The competition results will be announced the same day, adding a dynamic conclusion to the pitching event.

The Czech Horizon Grant aims to bridge the gap for animators transitioning from academic to professional work, encouraging them to continue their craft with the resources necessary for high-quality production. The winning projects are required to be completed within three years of receiving support to ensure timely development.

However, there are limitations: films that have been presented at the pitching session more than twice are ineligible for resubmission. This rule helps maintain the program's focus on fresh and innovative projects, providing a fair opportunity for new voices in the Czech animation scene.

Since its inception, the grant has been instrumental in stimulating the country's animation industry, nurturing talent, and enhancing the global reach of Czech animated films.
