The Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) in Germany is now accepting submissions for its 2025 edition, including the German Animation Screenplay Award, Animated Games Award, and Work in Progress section. Short film competition deadlines close on November 15, 2024, with other categories extending to February 2025.

The Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS), one of Germany's most prestigious events celebrating animation, has opened its call for entries for the 2025 edition. Submissions are now being accepted for multiple categories, offering filmmakers, game developers, and creative teams opportunities to showcase their work on an international stage.

Short Film and Feature-Length Competitions

The short film competitions, with a deadline of November 15, 2024, include the following categories:

  • International Competition: Open to global animated short films.
  • Student Competition: Welcoming student-made animated short films worldwide.
  • Tricks for Kids: Dedicated to animated films designed for children.
  • Trickstar Nature Award: Focused on films addressing nature and environmental themes.

The feature-length competition, AniMovie, has a later submission deadline of January 15, 2025. Both short and feature films must be submitted through Shortfilmdepot.

Special Categories: New Opportunities

In addition to its core competitions, ITFS 2025 has introduced or continued three other notable categories:

  • German Animation Screenplay Award: Recognizing excellence in screenwriting for animated feature films. Submissions are open in both German and English, with a February 1, 2025 deadline.
  • Animated Games Award Germany: Highlighting innovative computer games developed in Germany. Completed games published after January 1, 2024, are eligible, with a February 1, 2025 deadline.
  • Work in Progress: Providing a platform for projects still in development across film, TV, web, games, and immersive media. The submission deadline is February 15, 2025.

Submission Guidelines

Participants must adhere to the regulations outlined on the ITFS website. While online submissions via Shortfilmdepot are the standard, exceptions may be made upon request through consultation with ITFS program managers.
