“Anora” leads 34th Gotham Awards nominations with four nods in the USA
The Gotham Awards, hosted annually by the Gotham Film & Media Institute in New York, unveiled nominees for their 34th edition on Tuesday. A total of 39 films and 25 performances were recognized across nine categories. The ceremony marks the start of the 2024 awards season and will take place on December 2.
Leading the nominations is "Anora" with four nods, including best feature. Joining it in the best feature category are "Babygirl", "Challengers", "A Different Man", and "Nickel Boys", which also secured three nominations overall. Pamela Anderson, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody, and Mikey Madison are among the contenders for best lead performance.
The awards expanded this year by introducing a best director category. The inaugural nominees include Payal Kapadia for "All We Imagine as Light", Sean Baker for "Anora", Guan Hu for "Black Dog", Jane Schoenbrun for "I Saw the TV Glow", and RaMell Ross for "Nickel Boys".
International recognition was prominent, with best international feature nominees including "All We Imagine as Light", "Green Border", "Hard Truths", "Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell", and "Vermiglio". Films like "The Substance" and "Emilia Perez" were excluded from the best feature category due to their international status.
Breakthrough performer nominees spotlight rising talent such as Lily Collias ("Good One") and Ryan Destiny ("The Fire Inside"). The awards continue to highlight supporting performances, with nominees including Yura Borisov ("Anora") and Natasha Lyonne ("His Three Daughters").
The Gotham Awards are known for their celebration of independent cinema. This year’s diverse slate showcases emerging voices alongside established talent, promising a compelling event on December 2.
