Adrien Brody has been named the recipient of the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor, for his portrayal of architect László Toth in Brady Corbet’s "The Brutalist." The award will be presented at the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Awards, scheduled for January 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center in California. The event is part of the festival running from January 2 to 13, 2025, and is presented by Silvercrest with sponsorship from Entertainment Tonight.
Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi praised Brody’s performance in the film, stating: “In The Brutalist, Adrien Brody delivers a stunning performance... showcasing the depth of human dignity in the face of incredible suffering.”
Set in post-war Europe, The Brutalist follows architect László Toth’s journey as he escapes to America to rebuild his life after being forced apart from his wife Erzsébet during the war. The film explores themes of resilience, legacy, and the personal cost of creative genius.
Brody joins an illustrious group of 2025 honorees, including Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and John Lithgow (Ensemble Performance Award for Conclave), Colman Domingo (Spotlight Award, Actor), Mikey Madison (Breakout Performance Award), and Jacques Audiard with the cast of Emilia Pérez (Vanguard Award).
Previous recipients of the Desert Palm Achievement Award include acclaimed actors Riz Ahmed, Jeff Bridges, Daniel Day-Lewis, Matthew McConaughey, and Cillian Murphy, many of whom went on to win or be nominated for Oscars the same year.
Brody’s acting career spans collaborations with prominent filmmakers such as Peter Jackson (King Kong), Ken Loach (Bread and Roses), and Spike Lee (Summer of Sam). He is a frequent collaborator with Wes Anderson, appearing in five of Anderson’s films, including The French Dispatch and Asteroid City.
Notably, Brody remains the youngest actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actor, a distinction earned for his role as Władysław Szpilman in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist. His performance in The Brutalist is already being hailed as one of the finest of his career.
