Palm Springs International Film Awards honors Angelina Jolie with Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress

Angelina Jolie will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, at the Palm Springs International Film Awards in the USA on January 3, 2025, for her portrayal of Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín's "Maria." The festival runs January 2-13, 2025, celebrating talent like Adrien Brody and Nicole Kidman, with past winners including Emma Stone and Viola Davis.

The Palm Springs International Film Awards has announced that Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie will be honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, for her performance in Pablo Larraín’s "Maria." The award ceremony will take place on January 3, 2025, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, as part of the festival running from January 2 to January 13, 2025.

Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi praised Jolie’s performance, stating: “Maria presents the iconic Angelina Jolie in the role of a lifetime as she embodies Maria Callas, the world-renowned opera legend. Jolie’s extraordinary portrayal captures the heart and complexity of an artist whose life was as captivating as her music.”

"Maria," directed by Pablo Larraín, explores the final days of opera legend Maria Callas, capturing her reflections on identity and life in Paris after years in the public eye. The film, also starring Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, and Valeria Golino, will release in select theaters on November 27, 2024, and on Netflix starting December 11, 2024.

Jolie is among a distinguished list of honorees at this year’s awards, which includes Adrien Brody (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor), Ralph Fiennes and the cast of "Conclave" (Ensemble Performance Award), Colman Domingo (Spotlight Award, Actor), Nicole Kidman (International Star Award), Mikey Madison (Breakthrough Performance Award), and Jacques Audiard and the cast of "Emilia Pérez" (Vanguard Award).

Past recipients of the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, include Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Marion Cotillard, and Viola Davis. Many have gone on to win Academy Awards following their recognition in Palm Springs.

Angelina Jolie, known for her roles in "Girl, Interrupted," "Maleficent," and "Salt," is also a respected director and producer, with acclaimed projects like "First They Killed My Father" and "Unbroken." She has earned a Tony Award for producing the Broadway musical The Outsiders and is recognized for her humanitarian work, environmental advocacy, and efforts in global education.
