Camerimage 2024 in Poland: Golden Frog Awarded to Michał Dymek for “The Girl with the Needle”
The EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2024 festival in Toruń, Poland, concluded with a grand celebration of global cinematographic excellence, awarding its prestigious Golden Frog in the Main Competition to Polish cinematographer Michał Dymek for his work on The Girl with the Needle. Directed by Magnus von Horn, the film also received a special mention.
Other major accolades in the Main Competition included the Silver Frog, awarded to Lol Crawley for The Brutalist directed by Brady Corbet, and the Bronze Frog, which went to Paul Guilhaume for Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard.
The Jury of the International Federation of Film Critics honored The Devil’s Bath, shot by Martin Gschlacht and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, as the Best Film.
In the Cinematographers’ Debuts Competition, Todd Martin took the Golden Frog for Tatami, co-directed by Zar Amir Ebrahimi and Guy Nattiv. Sandhya Suri won the Directors’ Debuts Golden Frog for Santosh.
Elizabeth Lo claimed the Grand Prix in the Documentary Features Competition for her work on Mistress Dispeller, while the Documentary Shorts Golden Frog went to J. Daniel Zúñiga for Shotplayer. In the Music Videos Competition, Rodrigo Prieto earned the Golden Frog for Taylor Swift’s Fortnight, featuring Post Malone and directed by Swift herself.
The TV Series Competition celebrated Ripley: A Hard Man to Find, with Robert Elswit winning the Golden Frog for cinematography and Steven Zaillian directing. Piotr Sobociński Jr. won the Grand Prix Polish Films Golden Frog for Scarborn, directed by Paweł Maślona.
Student filmmakers were also recognized, with the Golden Tadpole Award going to Tin Brendel from Łódź Film School for Orchid. The Silver Tadpole went to Daniel Le Hai from Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School for I Am Not Here, and the Bronze Tadpole was awarded to Lisa Jilg from Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg for Titans.
The audience award, Nagroda Publiczności „Totalizator Sportowy,” was also claimed by Tatami, further highlighting its impact at the festival.
