European Film Awards 2024: 79 Nominees, 22 Categories to Be Honored in Lucerne, Switzerland
This Saturday, December 7, 2024, the European Film Academy will host the 37th European Film Awards at KKL Lucerne in Switzerland. The ceremony celebrates the year’s greatest achievements in European cinema, with awards presented in 22 categories from a pool of 79 nominees. The prestigious event, which begins at 20:00 CET, will be broadcast live in 18 countries and streamed on the European Film Awards website.
The awards gala will feature renowned presenters including actresses Juliette Binoche, Maria Bakalova, and Yasmin Finney, actors Ralph Fiennes and Tom Blyth, and composer Dascha Dauenhauer. Swiss-born host Fernando Tiberini, fluent in eight languages, will guide the evening. The 21st Century Orchestra and Chorus, alongside Swiss vocalist Nubya, will perform the opening act. Nubya’s poignant song “Wounded Heart” will accompany the In Memoriam segment, supported by the orchestra's string quartet and pianist Mya Audrey.
Special honors include the European Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to German filmmaker Wim Wenders, the European Achievement in World Cinema Award to Italian actress Isabella Rossellini, and the Eurimages International Co-Production Award to Macedonian producer Labina Mitovska. Excellence Awards recognizing behind-the-scenes contributions to filmmaking have also been announced.
Nominees this year include prominent figures such as Ralph Fiennes ("Conclave"), Trine Dyrholm ("The Girl with the Needle"), Maura Delpero ("Vermiglio"), and Gints Zilbalodis ("Flow"). Highlights among the films include "No Other Land" by Yuval Abraham and Basel Adra, and Jacques Audiard's "Emilia Pérez."
