“Shōgun” Dominates TV Category with 6 Nominations at USA Critics Choice Awards
The Critics Choice Association (CCA) has revealed the television nominations for the 30th annual Critics Choice Awards, scheduled to take place on January 12, 2025, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The event will air live on E! and will be hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler.
FX’s "Shōgun," an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel, dominates this year’s nominations with six nods, including Best Drama Series. Key cast members Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, and Takehiro Hira are all in contention for acting awards. Moeka Hoshi also garnered a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Several other series made strong showings with four nominations each. ABC’s "Abbott Elementary" competes for Best Comedy Series, with cast members Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, and Janelle James earning acting nods. Netflix’s "The Diplomat," starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell, is up for Best Drama Series, alongside acting nominations for its leads and Allison Janney. FX’s "What We Do in the Shadows" is also recognized in multiple categories, including Best Comedy Series and acting nods for Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, and Harvey Guillén.
Apple TV+’s "Disclaimer," HBO Max’s "Hacks," and HBO’s "The Penguin" are among other top contenders, each securing four nominations.
Nominations span across 22 categories, recognizing achievements in drama, comedy, limited series, and more. Winners of the television categories will join their cinematic counterparts when film nominations are unveiled on December 12, 2024.
