The event promises robust industry networking and showcases series, documentaries, and global productions.

The European Film Market (EFM) 2025, under the leadership of Tanja Meissner, will welcome global film and TV professionals to Berlin, Germany, from February 13 to 19. As one of the world’s foremost trading hubs for the audio-visual industry, EFM serves as a bellwether for trends and innovations in production, licensing, and distribution. This year’s event, hosted across multiple venues, has already secured full booking of exhibition spaces.

For the first time, the EFM Distributor Award will be presented on February 12. Sponsored by Fintage House with a prize of €7,500, this accolade recognizes European arthouse distribution's crucial role in promoting cultural diversity. A jury of industry experts will oversee the selection process.

The newly launched Innovation Hub at Gropius Bau will spotlight cutting-edge technologies, including AI-driven solutions for production and distribution. Industry-leading companies such as Microsoft, Largo.ai, and the Film Commission Region Stuttgart are among the collaborators. This space will host exhibitor showcases, interactive panels, and workshops exclusively for Market Badge holders.

The EFM Toolbox programme, supported by the Creative Europe Media Programme, Canada Media Fund, and Hessen Film & Medien, emphasizes inclusivity by integrating underrepresented filmmakers into the industry. Practical workshops and networking events aim to bridge systemic gaps for marginalized groups.

Returning highlights include the Berlinale Series Market, now in its 11th year, and the DocSalon for documentary networking. The Series Market will showcase 15 curated series alongside exclusive promo reel screenings and conferences. Meanwhile, DocSalon offers curated sessions and consultations with leading experts in the documentary field.

Spotlight on Spain

Spain takes the spotlight as the 2025 "Country in Focus," with an emphasis on its cinematic creativity, diverse production capabilities, and tech-savvy innovations. This aligns with the EFM's commitment to fostering global partnerships and exploring emerging trends.

Expanding Venues and Activities

This year introduces additional venues, including the University of Applied Sciences, for expanded screenings and discussions. The AfroBerlin programme, now featuring an African Pavilion and Afro Music Film Day, further highlights the EFM's commitment to cross-cultural dialogue.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

The EFM operates within Berlinale Pro*, a consortium that also includes Berlinale Talents, the Berlinale Co-Production Market, and the World Cinema Fund. According to Berlinale Director Tricia Tuttle, this integration aims to streamline operations and strengthen industry collaboration.
