Wow, Butter Week!

A greedy landlord taxes the peasants for the snowfall. The boy, the grandson of the old men from whom the insatiable rich man has taken a big pot of oil as payment, decides to teach the rich man a lesson, gets to his manor and overhears the landlord talking to his dumb watchwoman, who says that the pot will stay until the Pancake Eve arrives. The old woman, having decided that the “Pancake Girl” is a person, wonders “who he is and when he will come”, and at this moment she bumps into a boy who, taking advantage of the information she has heard, introduces himself as the “Pancake Girl” and says he has come to get his own. The foolish woman gives him the pot of butter, saying she does not wish to guard someone else’s goods. She then reports to the master that the “Pancake Man” has come and she has given the butter, as the master has commanded.

The landowner, realizing that the guardian has been conned, rushes after the boy on horseback. The boy pretends to be a snowman and tells the rich man that he will not catch up with the runaway, since his horse runs slower than the boy because of the greater number of legs. The rich man falls into this trap and runs, and the boy steals the horse as well. At night, the frozen landowner crawls home on all fours and falls to his death, and the stunned watchwoman sits down in the snow, which causes her double barrel to fire and shatter the spotlight with one shot and the moon with the other. The dog on watchtower witnesses this and starts howling.
