Eight-year-old Katya revels in the summer spent with her grandparents in the countryside. Time seems to stand still, but in the distance, the rumble of war becomes increasingly present. Shot in long takes, Korkia’s debut is both peaceful yet subtly threatening. Keeping the historical frame ambiguous, the film conveys the dreadful impression that crimes and tragedies recur, with the lessons from them remaining unlearned.
