The prestigious award, recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to contemporary cinema, will be presented on September 2, 2024, at the Palazzo del Cinema, prior to the screening of his latest film, "Finalement."

Lelouch, celebrated for his influential works such as "A Man and a Woman" ("Un homme et une femme"), "Happy New Year" ("La bonne année"), and "The Beautiful Story" ("La belle histoire"), has left a profound impact on the film industry with his diverse and innovative approach to filmmaking. Over his extensive career, Lelouch has directed more than sixty feature films and has been a pioneer in blending genres and unconventional narrative structures.

Alberto Barbera, Director of the Venice Film Festival, praised Lelouch’s career: “Claude Lelouch is one of the top directors of French cinema, an excellent interpreter of its ‘quality,’ albeit alien to its main currents. He is also a very prolific filmmaker, having directed over sixty feature films. His success began with 'A Man and a Woman,' which won the Golden Palm at Cannes and two Oscars in 1967. His filmography is a testament to his unique ability to blend genres and narrative styles.”

The Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award celebrates Lelouch’s extensive body of work, including classics like "Money Money Money" ("L'aventure, c'est l'aventure"), "Itinerary of a Spoiled Child" ("Itinéraire d'un enfant gâté"), and "Rendezvous" ("C'etait un rendez-vous"), a short film noted for its groundbreaking Steadicam use. His films, known for their emotive storytelling and technical innovation, have resonated deeply with audiences worldwide.

Cyrille Vigneron, President and CEO of Cartier, highlighted Lelouch’s contribution to cinema: “Claude Lelouch’s films are incredibly human, capturing love and emotion with unparalleled depth. His work has left an indelible mark on the world of film and continues to inspire.”

"Finalement," the film set to be showcased at the festival, is a reflection of Lelouch’s ability to encapsulate the complexities of human experience. The film, produced by Les Films 13 and co-produced by France 2 Cinéma and Laurent Dassault Rond-Point, addresses themes of personal transformation in a chaotic world.
