Sundance Film Festival Reveals 93 World Premieres for 2025 Edition in Utah
The Sundance Institute has unveiled the lineup for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, which runs from January 23 to February 2 in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, with a portion of the program available online from January 30 to February 2. This year’s selection includes 87 feature-length films and six episodic projects, representing 33 countries. Notably, 96% of the projects are world premieres.
Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance Institute, emphasized the festival’s commitment to championing unique and urgent voices in independent storytelling. “Audiences can expect a program that showcases varied and vibrant filmmaking globally,” he stated. Acting CEO Amanda Kelso highlighted Sundance’s year-round work in artist support and the festival’s role in fostering dialogue through storytelling.
The lineup reflects significant strides in diversity, with 47% of feature films directed by women, 45% by filmmakers of color, and 29% by LGBTQ+ directors. The U.S. Dramatic Competition section features standout titles like “Atropia,” “Bubble & Squeak,” and “Sorry, Baby.” Meanwhile, the World Cinema Dramatic Competition introduces international voices with films like “Sauna” (Denmark) and “Sabar Bonda” (India).
To reach broader audiences, more than half of the festival’s feature programs, including all competition titles, will be available for online streaming. Single film tickets for both in-person and online screenings will go on sale January 16, with a pre-sale available for Sundance members.
The festival will feature the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize-winning “SALLY” and host its annual fundraising gala on January 24. Additionally, the 2025 Sundance Film Festival Awards will take place on January 31.
The 2025 program was curated from over 15,000 submissions, including 4,138 feature-length films and 484 episodic projects. The full schedule, including short films and conversations, will be revealed on December 16.
